COMAR Robert "Bob" Francis Comar, 82, of Worthington, passed away Monday,
February 23, 2009 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
Veteran U.S. Army, WWII, and Korean War. Robert was
awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal,
Meritorious Service Medal and the UN Service Ribbon. He attained the rank of
Lieutenant Colonel in the Ohio Army National Guard (ret.), and was flight
instructor and Commander of the Army Aviation Facility, Beitler Armory,
Worthington. He was awarded the Ohio Distinguished Service Medal with "V"
for Valor in February 1976, for his heroic rescue by helicopter of two young
boys from drowning.
Graduate of Bennington High School, Vermont,
University of Vermont (BA). Robert loved his family, sports, and he loved to
fly planes and helicopters. He cherished his life and health, and was always
upbeat and optimistic.
Preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Hope,
parents Joseph and Helen Natter, brothers Joseph, Richard, and Donald.
Survived by children, Robin Jenney, Richard Comar, Ellen Bothwell, and
Cheryl Bair; and grandchildren, Aimee Bothwell, Samuel Bair, and Matthew
Bair.
Private family services were held Wednesday, February
25 at RUTHERFORD-CORBIN FUNERAL HOME, Worthington, Oh. Burial will be at
Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.
